The Nigerian government, in collaboration with national and international partners, has initiated an appeal for $306 million to address critical food assistance, nutrition, clean water, healthcare, and protection needs.
The appeal aims to support 2.8 million people in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (BAY) states, regions severely affected by the ongoing food security and nutrition crisis. A recent analysis indicated that 4.8 million people in these states face severe food insecurity, the highest in seven years.
Vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly, and people with disabilities are most at risk. National Emergency Management Agency Director General, Zubaida Umar, emphasized the urgency of mobilizing resources to prevent malnutrition-related deaths, exacerbated by conflict, insecurity, and climate change.
