The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), has imposed a ban on the sale of fuel in jerrycans across the country.
This measure comes as Nigeria grapples with a significant fuel scarcity, causing long queues at filling stations in various states including Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano. The scarcity has severely impacted daily activities, with many motorists struggling to secure fuel for their vehicles.
The NMDPRA has intensified its efforts against the illegal sale of petroleum products, particularly Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), warning filling stations against servicing unauthorized peddlers. The agency emphasized that “any filling station caught violating this directive will face immediate suspension of their retail licenses.” This crackdown aims to curb the illegal trade and ensure that fuel is available to those who genuinely need it.
