Nollywood Mourns as Actor Solomon Akiyesi Dies in Abuja
The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actor and entrepreneur Solomon Akiyesi.
His passing was confirmed on Monday by the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, who disclosed that the actor died in his sleep on Sunday in Abuja.
Yakubu revealed that Akiyesi’s remains have been deposited in a mortuary in the Federal Capital Territory, while the guild awaits additional information from his family regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
“He slept and did not wake up. We are still expecting more details from his family. His body has been taken to a morgue in Abuja,” Yakubu said.
Akiyesi, who hailed from Akoko-Edo in Edo State, built a notable career in Nollywood, earning recognition for his performances in several productions.
Over the years, he appeared in films such as Heart of a Saint, Desperate Ladies, Pretty Liars, and Bridge of Contract.
Beyond acting, he was also known for his entrepreneurial ventures and his contributions to the growth of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
News of his death has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, with colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders paying tribute to his legacy and impact on Nollywood.
His sudden passing has left many shocked, as the industry remembers one of its familiar faces.
