Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, a revered figure in Nigerian cinema, has passed away at the age of 82.
Born on July 11, 1942, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Jacobs began his acting journey in England after training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He starred in numerous British television series before making his mark in over 200 Nollywood films.
Jacobs, celebrated for his profound contributions to the industry, received both national and international accolades, including the Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) honor in 2011. Alongside his wife, fellow actress Joke Silva, Jacobs was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in 2016.
Despite his illness with dementia with Lewy bodies, Jacobs continued to inspire generations of actors and filmmakers with his talent and dedication. His legacy lives on through his children, Olusoji, Olugbenga, and Dayo Jacobs, and his impact on Nigerian cinema remains indelible.
