A boat carrying more than 50 people sank in Sokoto State, Nigeria, leaving over 40 passengers missing. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that 10 people have been rescued, but the search for the others continues.
The boat was traveling to Goronyo Market when it capsized. NEMA has deployed teams to assist local authorities in the search and rescue efforts.
Boat accidents, particularly during the rainy season, are a frequent issue in Nigeria. The causes are often linked to overcrowding, poor maintenance, and harsh weather conditions. A similar tragedy occurred in Niger State last year, resulting in numerous fatalities.
