Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of Nigeria’s Labour Party, has strongly condemned the demolition of a property belonging to his younger brother in Ikeja, Lagos.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Obi said his brother was blocked from entering the property and found it was already being demolished without any prior notice. Security personnel at the site claimed there was a court judgment, but it was issued against unnamed individuals and alleged squatters.
Obi stated that no demolition order or official permit was presented, and those carrying out the demolition could not identify who authorized it. He described the act as a violation of due process and an example of growing lawlessness.
He called on Nigerian authorities to uphold the rule of law, stressing that the property had been legally owned for over 15 years.
