Police officer Stationed at President’s Official Residence Murdered in Attack
A Kenyan police officer guarding the State House in Nairobi has died after being struck by an arrow.
According to police reports, the incident happened on Monday morning when a 56-year-old man armed with a bow and arrows approached the gate of the president’s official residence.
Officers ordered him to surrender, but instead, he shot Constable Ramadhan Matanka in the ribs. The officer was rushed to the hospital but sadly died while receiving treatment.
Authorities said the attacker had disguised himself as a homeless man, hiding his weapons inside a sack. He was quickly overpowered and arrested by security officers after the attack.
Local news outlets shared footage showing the suspect in handcuffs and being taken to the hospital for treatment.
Investigators are now working to determine the motive behind the assault, which has sparked concerns about security at one of Kenya’s most heavily guarded buildings.
Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga condemned the attack, describing it as a “heinous act” and praised officers for their quick action in preventing further harm.
He also extended condolences to the family of the late officer, saying Constable Matanka “paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.” A post-mortem is expected to be conducted, and the suspect is due to appear in court soon.
