Red Cross Day: Soludo’s wife highlights compassion as key to healing, unity
Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, says compassion remains one of the greatest forces for healing and unity in society.
Soludo said this in a statement on Friday in Awka to mark 2026 World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, with the theme – “United in Humanity”.
World Red Cross Day is celebrated every May 8 to honour its founder, Henry Dunant, as well as recognise volunteers and staff who promote respect for humanity and work to prevent and alleviate human suffering.
She said; ” On this World Red Cross Day, we are reminded that compassion remains one of the greatest forces for healing and unity.
“From disaster response to healthcare support and crucial humanitarian interventions, the Red Cross continues to stand for compassion, dignity and service to humanity,” she said.
The Governor’s Wife commended the courage, compassion and selfless service of members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the global International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
According to her, the unwavering sacrifices of the humanitarian organisations continue to bring hope to people in times of crisis.
Soludo urged residents to embrace the spirit of humanity by extending love, care and support to vulnerable persons in society.
She added that collective efforts would help build a more compassionate and resilient society where everyone is safe and secure.
