Abia North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has called on the federal government to increase the new minimum wage to ₦90,000, arguing that the proposed ₦62,000 is insufficient to meet workers’ needs.

In an interview with Channels Television, Kalu emphasized that the minimum wage has not been adjusted in five years despite significant inflation. He highlighted the importance of treating civil servants well and expressed concern about widespread hunger in the country. While commending President Bola Tinubu’s economic and monetary policies, Kalu stressed the need for better fiscal policies and increased food production. He also advocated for local government financial autonomy to ensure efficient fund allocation.
