Several Killed as IED Blast Rocks Niger Community, Bridge Destroyed
A deadly explosion has struck along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, after an improvised explosive device detonated, leaving multiple casualties.
Reports indicate that the device went off as a vehicle was in motion on Monday, resulting in fatalities and widespread panic among residents. The attack is believed to have been carried out by suspected terrorists operating in the area.
In addition to the blast, a key bridge connecting the communities of Luma, Babanna and Agwara was reportedly destroyed.
The route is a critical link for movement in the region, especially for traders and commuters heading to the Babanna border market, a major commercial hub that operates weekly.
The incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of the North Central region, coming on the same day as another explosion in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, where several people were also feared dead.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, as residents grapple with the aftermath and disruption caused by the attack.
