Sowore Challenges Soludo, Otti, Abaribe, Obi to Join Peaceful March for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has thrown a challenge to prominent South-East leaders, including Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo; Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti; Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe; and Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, urging them to join him in a peaceful march to Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, to demand the release of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore made the appeal on his verified social media handles, insisting that those who claim to support Kanu’s cause must go beyond rhetoric and show real commitment through peaceful, lawful action.
“I will set aside my differences with some politicians for one cause,” Sowore stated. “I challenge every politician or person of conscience from the Southeast who says they want Nnamdi Kanu released to stop the rhetoric. The time for action is now. Let’s march peacefully to Aso Rock Villa.”
The activist emphasized that moral support and social media statements were no longer enough, saying true leadership demanded visible solidarity. He called on governors, senators, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders from the region to join the march as a united front for justice.
“No more empty noise,” he declared. “Let Soludo, Abaribe, Otti, Obi, and others who say they care join us physically. We will go together peacefully, legally, and visibly to demand justice and an end to Nnamdi Kanu’s persecution.”
Sowore also invited Nigerians across ethnic and political lines to participate, saying the demand for justice transcends regional boundaries. “This is about fairness, humanity, and the rule of law,” he said.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was re-arrested and extradited to Nigeria in 2021 after fleeing the country in 2017. He has since remained in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) over terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government.
Despite multiple court rulings ordering his release, Kanu remains detained — a situation that has continued to stir widespread concern within and outside Nigeria. Rights groups, regional leaders, and international observers have repeatedly urged the government to comply with judicial orders, citing Kanu’s deteriorating health and prolonged detention without resolution.
Sowore’s latest call amplifies growing frustration over the government’s handling of the case and urges influential voices in the Southeast to demonstrate courage and unity through peaceful, visible action rather than political caution or silence.
