Libya Marks Bold Comeback with African Volleyball Championship in Misrata
Libya is making a striking return to the African sports scene as it hosts the 46th African Men’s Volleyball Clubs Championship in Misrata. The tournament gathers 23 clubs from nine African countries, including Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and Kenya, highlighting not only elite athletic talent but also Libya’s journey toward recovery and renewal.
Taking place in the newly refurbished Misrata International Sports Hall, the championship is supported by over 1,500 security and medical personnel, ensuring a safe and seamless experience for all participants and spectators. Jean-Claude Maupita, President of the Control Committee, commended the host nation, stating, “The organization is very good. The level of play is also impressive.”
For local fans, the event is more than a sporting spectacle—it’s a symbol of national pride. “My son and I came early to support our team,” said one enthusiastic supporter.
Looking ahead, Libya is preparing to host the Arab Volleyball Championship in 2026, signaling its ambition to rebuild not only its image but also its regional presence.
As the competition unfolds, Libya is sending a powerful message to the continent: it’s back—stronger, safer, and ready to lead once more.
