Timothy Mtambo Breaks Silence: “I Now Serve AFORD, Not HRDC — Let’s Fix Malawi Together”

Former rights activist turned politician Timothy Mtambo has made it clear that his loyalty now lies with the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) and the current Mutharika administration.

Speaking firmly, Mtambo distanced himself from claims linking him to anti-government protests, stressing that his focus is on helping the government rebuild Malawi’s struggling economy. “I have no plans to join any demonstrations. My duty now is to support AFORD and the administration in fixing our nation,” he said.

Mtambo reminded the public that any failure of the Mutharika government would also reflect on AFORD, emphasizing that “when DPP and AFORD succeed, Malawi succeeds.”

He urged citizens to give the ruling coalition time and space to deliver on its promises, saying that the campaign season was over and it was now time for development. He called for unity, urging Malawians to move beyond politics and work together toward national progress.

Addressing social media rumours, Mtambo warned those spreading lies about his involvement in protests to stop using his name for “propaganda and clout.”

He clarified that he left the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) over five years ago and no longer has ties to activism. Ending his statement with a firm tone, Mtambo said he would not be intimidated by falsehoods or manipulation.

His comments mark a clear shift from his activist past to a new role in political leadership, focused on stability, reform, and national rebuilding.
