FAAN inter-departmental sports tournament promotes Nigeria’s aviation excellence — Kuku

By Itohan Abara-Laserian

Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), says the annual inter-departmental sports tournament promotes strength, unity, and excellence, providing a platform to showcase teamwork and the spirit of Nigeria’s aviation industry.

Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN Managing Director, made the remarks at the final match between the Directorate of Finance and Accounts and the Directorate of Environmental Services on Thursday in Lagos.

Kuku was represented by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire.

She explained that the competition, which began about a month ago, was a demonstration of strength, skill, and endurance, and had developed into a remarkable display of unity, teamwork, and the indomitable FAAN spirit.

“Today, as we gather to celebrate the conclusion of this exciting tournament, we are reminded that this event is not just about winning medals.

“it is about strengthening the bond that ties us together as one FAAN family.

“To all our athletes, from engineering to operations, finance, human resources, security, and every other directorate, you have demonstrated courage, discipline, and sportsmanship.

“Your passion and commitment, both on and off the field, reflect the same excellence we strive for in serving Nigeria’s aviation industry,” she said.

She commended the Director of Human Resources and Administration, the General Manager of Welfare and Management Services, for their unwavering dedication and coordination in ensuring the success of this year’s event.

She added that as champions emerged, the true victory lied not just in the trophies, but in the friendships built, teamwork strengthened, and the spirit of togetherness rekindled.

“To every participant—whether you go home with a medal or not—you are all winners.

“You have shown that in FAAN, excellence is not confined to our offices or airports; it also thrives on the field of play.

“As we bring this year’s competition to a close, I encourage us all to carry forward the spirit of unity, fair play, and camaraderie we have shared here.

‘Let it inspire our work, our relationships, and our collective drive toward building a stronger and more vibrant FAAN,” said Kuku.

In his welcome address, the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr Luqman Emiola, said the essence of the competition was to promote healthy work environment, fostering unity and teamwork.

“I congratulate all participants for their dedication, teamwork and sportsmanship displayed so far.

“Your passion and commitment to excellence are truly inspiring. I want to emphasise that the true essence of this competition goes beyond winning or losing,” he said.

Emiola was represented by Mrs Gladys Omotosho, General Manager, Welfare and Management Services.

Also speaking on behalf of the Sports Committee, Omotosho said that sports continued to serve as a vital tool in promoting wellness, discipline and productivity in FAAN.

She thanked the FAAN management led by Kuku, staff, participants, coaches, sponsors and all who contributed to the success of the competition.

Recall that the Directorate of Environmental Services defeated the Directorate of Finance and Accounts 2-1 to emerge champion.

The grand finale featured taekwondo, egg races, cycling, and cultural displays.

Elon Musk Becomes First Trillionaire in History Elon Musk has reportedly crossed a historic financial threshold, becoming the first individual to reach a net worth above $1 trillion, following the public listing of SpaceX. SpaceX, Musk’s aerospace company, began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX, opening at $135 per share before rising sharply to about $165 in early trading. The surge lifted the company’s valuation beyond $2 trillion, driven by strong investor demand at launch. Prior to the IPO, Musk’s estimated wealth stood at roughly $813 billion. The increase in SpaceX’s market value pushed his total net worth past the trillion-dollar mark, according to financial reports tracking billionaire valuations. The milestone further distances Musk from other global billionaires, with his fortune now exceeding that of several top-ranking figures combined on global wealth indices. SpaceX now joins the upper tier of publicly traded companies in the United States, alongside tech giants such as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, and Nvidia in total market value. The company continues to expand its reach through Starlink, its satellite internet service, and xAI, its artificial intelligence venture behind the Grok chatbot, reinforcing Musk’s influence across multiple high-growth technology sectors. The development underscores the accelerating financial impact of space commercialization and artificial intelligence in shaping modern global markets.
