Tinubu Names Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu Nigeria’s New Foreign Affairs Minister
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Before this elevation, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, where she played a key role in advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and strengthening bilateral relations.
The Presidency also announced the nomination of Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
A veteran diplomat, Enikanolaiye brings more than three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service.
He has held several strategic positions, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has represented Nigeria in major diplomatic missions across Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the appointments are part of the Tinubu administration’s broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, enhance strategic international partnerships, and boost economic diplomacy.
President Tinubu charged the new appointees to uphold Nigeria’s national interests, deepen regional cooperation, promote stability across Africa, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
