According to this verifiable and resourceful research by today in history, here are moments that went down in history today

 

On this day in 1492, the crew of Christopher Columbus’s ship, the Santa Maria, attempted a mutiny.

Still on this day in 1760, in a treaty with the Dutch colonial authorities, the Ndyuka people of Suriname descended from escaped slaves, and gained territorial autonomy.

According to today in history, in 1780, on this day, the Great Hurricane of 1780 killed 20,000–30,000 in the Caribbean.

Again, on this day in 1846 Triton, the largest moon of the planet Neptune, was discovered by English astronomer William Lassell.

It was on this day in 1963 France cedes control of the Bizerte naval base to Tunisia.

In 1964, on this day, the Tokyo Summer Olympics opening ceremony was the first to be relayed live by satellites.

It was on this day in 2002, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) delivered its ruling on the Bakassi Peninsula dispute. The ICJ found in favor of Cameroon regarding the oil-rich territory, which had been contested by Nigeria.
