The World Bank has approved a $300 million loan to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Northern Nigeria, potentially benefiting up to 7.4 million people.
The approval was granted on August 7, 2025, and was announced in a statement released Monday.
The funding aims to boost resilience and increase access to vital services for communities affected by displacement in the region.
World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Mathew Verghis, said the initiative is designed to help tackle the long-term development issues linked to internal displacement.
“We are pleased to back this effort, which can play a key role in addressing the development challenges caused by prolonged displacement,” Verghis stated.
