Iran Officials Arrive in Qatar for US-Brokered Peace Talks Amid Middle East War Tensions
Iran has sent senior government officials to Qatar for high-level talks as diplomatic efforts continue over a United States-backed proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The delegation includes Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati.
Their arrival marks Iran’s first major diplomatic engagement in the Gulf region since the outbreak of the war.
The discussions in Doha are expected to focus on a possible peace deal involving the United States, with key issues including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear programme, and access to frozen Iranian assets abroad.
US officials have said talks are still ongoing, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio noting that Washington is considering a detailed proposal while keeping military options open if diplomacy fails.
Former US President Donald Trump also confirmed continued negotiations with Tehran, saying any agreement must be complete and fair to all sides.
Qatar is playing a growing mediation role in the talks, alongside earlier efforts by Pakistan, as regional and global actors push for an end to months of escalating conflict.
Iranian officials say the visit will also help assess Washington’s commitment to any potential agreement, stressing that discussions are still at an early stage and no final deal has been reached.
