With less than three weeks after the former ruling Patriotic Front -PF- lost power to the alliance, United Party for National Development -UPND-, resignations have rocked the party whose symbol, the boat, has earned it a new mocking political name, ‘the sinking Titanic’.
Latest to resign from the sinking Titanic is National Youth Chairperson, Kelvin Sampa.
Speaking hours ago at a media briefing in Kasama, Northern province, Sampa announced his resignation explaining that he wanted to concentrate on his business.
The former Member of Parliament for Kasama Central constituency thanked the party and people for having given him a chance to serve.
After suffering a humiliating defeat in the just ended August 12 general elections, the PF has lost key party officials and cadres who were once die-hard supporters for the now lonely former President Edgar Lungu.
Commenting on the happenings within the former ruling party, renowned constitutional lawyer, John Sangwe, said the PF was a criminal organization adding that the party would not survive the lose because of possible lawsuits awaiting its leaders.
Intra-party fightings is another big problem prevailing in the party with grassroots calling for the Secretary General, Davies Mwila, to resign for failing to win last general elections.
The PF under former President Edgar Lungu became a haven of tribalism, corruption, thuggery and cadrism.
