Deji Adeyanju, a Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, has condemned the Tinubu-led government for charging peaceful #EndBadGovernance protesters with treason while bandits who terrorize the nation remain free.
Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, Adeyanju expressed dismay that the protesters were remanded at Kuje and Suleja correctional centres by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The ruling was made on September 2, 2024, with a bail hearing set for September 11.
Adeyanju lamented the situation, stating, “It is really sad that peaceful protesters are being charged and no bandit is being charged… It is very sad that we have degenerated to this level as a nation.” He emphasized that freedom of assembly is a constitutionally guaranteed right, yet the government appears misguided and uninterested in justice. Despite these challenges, Adeyanju confirmed that the lawyers representing the protesters are well-prepared for the upcoming hearing.
