Vote counting has started in Mozambique following the recent presidential and parliamentary elections. Outgoing President Filipe Nyusi urged calm, stating, “I would also ask that no group of citizens agitate or threaten others.” Concerns about electoral fraud were voiced by opposition leaders, with many voters expressing a desire for change.

Political analyst Domingos Do Rosario remarked, “Nothing is going to change,” reflecting skepticism about the elections’ impact. The Frelimo party’s candidate, Daniel Chapo, could represent a generational shift as he steps into the role.

Chapo, a relatively unknown figure, has called for peace following his vote. The new government will face significant economic challenges, including high debt and delays in energy projects due to ongoing violence in Cabo Delgado, underscoring the need for urgent reforms to stabilize the nation.
