During a recent community engagement in Katsina, Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga, the 5th Wazirin Katsina, urged the northern region of Nigeria to unify and prepare for potential self-determination, echoing sentiments from the South regarding secession.
He highlighted the fragmented defense of northern interests compared to the cohesive efforts of groups like the Biafrans, stating, “Without preparation, the North could struggle to survive should the South succeed in breaking away.”
Lugga criticized the North’s passive response to security issues, contrasting it with the proactive measures taken by southern states, such as the formation of regional security forces like Amotekun.
Jamilu Charanchi, the National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), echoed the urgency for community-led initiatives to tackle Nigeria’s socioeconomic and security challenges, criticizing leadership for focusing on elections over the country’s future.
