Fred Omoruyi, a Nigerian footballer, shared the harrowing story of how his relationship with his UK wife, Jane, turned toxic and led to false accusations that resulted in his arrest and the threat of deportation.
Omoruyi met Jane in 2019, and their relationship blossomed, culminating in their marriage in Nigeria.
However, after moving to the UK in 2022, Omoruyi noticed a drastic shift in Jane’s behavior. “She just changed. I asked her, ‘Baby, what’s happening?’ and she gave me silly excuses,” Omoruyi said, explaining how their bond deteriorated.
The situation worsened with constant arguments, financial strain, and emotional abuse. Omoruyi described an incident where, after sending money to a friend, Jane erupted in anger, accusing him of “sending money to people anyhow after she brought me here.”
The tension escalated until November 2023, when Jane falsely accused Omoruyi of threatening her life. “They told me my wife reported that I was threatening to kill her. I was shocked,” Omoruyi recalled.
Omoruyi was arrested, and though he admitted to a moment of physical retaliation, he denied all the other charges.
“I pleaded guilty to hitting her, but I told them I wasn’t the one who started it,” he explained.
Despite his pleas, he was remanded in prison for six months. Upon his release, immigration authorities informed him of his impending deportation due to his “foreign criminal” status.
To make matters worse, Omoruyi discovered that his bank account, which once held £49,000, had been drained through fraudulent transfers.
“When I logged into my bank account, it was empty. I had £49,000 in it,” he said, describing his shock when the bank confirmed the fraud.
Further investigations revealed that Jane and a Nigerian pastor allegedly conspired to ruin Omoruyi’s life.
“The pastor told her that if she didn’t arrest me, she wouldn’t have control over me,” Omoruyi claimed. After his arrest, Jane allegedly began a relationship with the pastor, who sent her money.
Facing deportation and financial ruin, Omoruyi applied for asylum, insisting he could not return to Nigeria. “Where would I go? I left Nigeria when I was young,” he explained, seeking refuge in the UK.
Meanwhile, online supporters have rallied around him, crowdfunding for legal support as he fights against the looming deportation.
