CAF Suspends Super Falcons Players Before Egypt Showdown
Nigeria’s preparations for their crucial final Group C fixture at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have suffered a setback after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) suspended two Super Falcons players.
Defender Oluwatosin Demehin and midfielder Jennifer Echegini will both sit out the clash against Egypt after disciplinary sanctions stemming from Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Zambia.
The Super Falcons returned to winning ways against the Copper Queens after their surprise defeat to Malawi, keeping their hopes of reaching the knockout stage firmly alive.
Demehin was dismissed in the 40th minute of the encounter after receiving a straight red card for fouling Zambia captain Barbra Banda as the striker raced clear on goal.
Echegini, meanwhile, received her second yellow card of the tournament during the match. In line with CAF regulations, the booking attracts an automatic one-match suspension.
Nigeria must now face Egypt without the suspended pair as they bid to secure qualification for the quarter-finals.
