Infantino Set for FIFA Exit as Successor Race Begins
FIFA President Gianni Infantino is reportedly set to step down from his position, with discussions already underway over who could succeed him at the helm of world football.
According to The Times of the UK, the uncertainty surrounding Infantino’s future follows the collapse of a reported plan to sell a stake in the FIFA World Cup to private investors.
The proposal, linked to the FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative, reportedly faced strong opposition from several football governing bodies, which raised concerns about the arrangement. Reports also claimed the scheme could have financially benefited the FIFA president.
Although the 56-year-old is said to be eager to remain in office, his support within the football community is reportedly weakening.
A source quoted by The Times described Infantino as a “dead duck,” claiming that potential successors are already positioning themselves ahead of an expected leadership change.
The report added that both the English Football Association and UEFA have lost confidence in Infantino, further fuelling speculation that his time as FIFA president could soon come to an end.
