The Rivers State Police Command in Nigeria has confirmed the arrest of Kelvin Okoro, a man accused of hacking a Reverend Sister, Maureen Wecheonwu, to death in the Aluu community of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State.
According to a statement by police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, “Yes, I can confirm. The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.”
Sources close to the case revealed that Okoro owed the Reverend Sister an undisclosed amount of money and had been pressuring her for repayment.
An anonymous source provided further details, stating, “What we heard was that he didn’t know how to repay the money. So he called the woman out in the guise of discussing the debt.”
The source went on to describe the grim attack:
“He took her to a lonely path and hit her severely with an object.” After the incident, the Reverend Sister’s body was found in a pool of blood by locals, who quickly notified a local security group.
“After the discovery of her remains, people started wondering why they hadn’t seen the man,” the source added.
The community vigilante group, OSPAC, led by Commander Kingsley Wali, conducted a manhunt for Okoro.
Following their efforts, he was tracked down and handed over to the police. Reports also indicated that Okoro had taken some of the deceased’s personal belongings following the crime.
Police investigations into the murder are ongoing, with authorities working to ensure justice is served.
