In a statement reported by The Sun Nigeria, veteran Nigerian politician Mohammed Abdullahi has called on the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, to publicly and honorably confront the allegations of sexual harassment brought against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and other women.
Abdullahi criticized what he described as Akpabio’s continued use of surrogate defenders and image managers to deflect attention from the serious nature of the accusations.
“This is about integrity and accountability,” he said, stressing, “The Senate President must rise to the occasion and prove his innocence through facts, not hired propaganda.”
Abdullahi took particular issue with the recent public involvement of a self-styled female professor who launched media attacks against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
He stresses on several inconsistencies in her narrative, especially her contradiction of denying any ties to Akpabio while simultaneously disclosing his private phone number during her campaign. This, according to Abdullahi, is a clear indication of collusion meant to manipulate public opinion.
He further described the woman as a figure already discredited by previous allegations of fraud and criminal conduct, accusing her of acting as a diversionary tool to obscure the serious accusations facing Akpabio.
Abdullahi expressed alarm that a matter as grave as sexual harassment could be reduced to what he termed a “media circus” fueled by individuals whose reputations are steeped in controversy.
In his remarks, Abdullahi also cast doubt on the woman’s academic standing, stating that her claims to professorship remain unsubstantiated and questionable.
He argued that the deployment of such individuals to counter allegations of this magnitude only serves to undermine the credibility of the Senate President’s defense.
Calling for accountability, he insisted that no public official, regardless of their status, should be exempt from scrutiny or justice.
Abdullahi urged Akpabio to abandon the use of smear campaigns and face the accusations directly, with transparency and respect for due process
