Liverpool FC has revealed plans to retire the No. 20 shirt as a permanent tribute to their late forward, Diogo Jota. The announcement was made on Thursday through the club’s official website, honouring Jota’s memory after his untimely passing.
Jota tragically died at the age of 28 in a car crash in Spain, which also took the life of his brother, André Silva. In recognition of Jota’s pivotal role in helping Liverpool secure the 2024–2025 Premier League title, the club has decided to retire the No. 20 shirt, ensuring that his legacy will live on at Anfield.
Among his many contributions, Jota’s dramatic shimmy strike in the Merseyside derby last April stands out as a fitting final goal, marking an emotional high in his career.
Jota is survived by his wife, Rute, and their three children, who continue to hold his memory close.
