Senator Abba Moro, who represents Benue South and serves as Senate Minority Leader, has suggested that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, could secure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket in 2027—if he decides to return to the party.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Moro responded to questions about Obi’s political future and the possibility of his return to the PDP.
“In politics, nothing is fixed,” Moro said. “I’ve always maintained that in politics, two plus two doesn’t always equal four. It’s often about interest—particularly when those interests are shared by a group within a specific geopolitical zone.”
He noted that while the PDP as a party has not formally reached out to Obi, conversations are already happening behind the scenes.
“Some people within the party are already speaking with him. If he comes back and becomes the most widely accepted and supported aspirant, he stands a genuine chance of clinching the party’s presidential ticket,” Moro added.
He concluded by saying that many within the PDP believe Obi’s return and candidacy could significantly boost the party’s chances in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
