Natasha Resumes at Senate, Rejects Pressure to Apologize

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally resumed legislative duties at the National Assembly after serving a six-month suspension, declaring that she would not apologize for what she described as an injustice against her.

Speaking to journalists shortly after accessing her office on Tuesday, the Kogi Central lawmaker stressed that no condition should be attached to her return since the matter was still before the court. She said any demand for an apology would amount to compounding illegality.

“I read that a motion may be raised on October 7 asking me to apologize. But let me be clear—no one can demand an apology for an injustice. That would simply add illegality upon illegality. If that is what they expect, they won’t get it from me,” she said firmly.

The senator recounted the challenges she faced during her suspension, including political pressure, blackmail, and restricted movement into her state.

She expressed gratitude to her constituents, family, and supporters for standing by her, while particularly praising her husband for his unwavering support.

“To God Almighty we give all the glory. I appreciate the good people of Kogi Central, Kogi State, and Nigerians at large. My husband, my love—you stood by me, and I pray every man supports his wife the way you have supported me,” she added.

Looking ahead, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan assured Nigerians that the country’s democratic journey remains promising. She urged citizens not to lose faith but to work collectively towards building a stronger nation ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The future is bright. We cannot give up hope. Our democracy is still evolving, and with determination, we will continue to take steps that safeguard the future of Nigeria,” she concluded.
