Heavy Security in Owerri as  President Tinubu Visits Imo for Project Commissioning

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrives in Imo State today for an official visit, with Nigerian security agencies assuring residents of maximum protection throughout his stay.

The Imo State Police Command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Henry Okoye, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, announced that a joint security arrangement involving all agencies has been deployed to guarantee peace and order before, during, and after the President’s engagements.

Owerri, the state capital, has undergone visible changes ahead of the visit. Roads leading from the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport into the city have been repaired, while failed portions have been patched to give the presidential convoy a smooth passage.

Key project sites have also been prepared, with fresh painting, cleaning, and beautification carried out in readiness for the commissioning ceremonies.

During the visit, Tinubu is expected to inaugurate several major projects undertaken by Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration.

These include the twin flyover interchange at the Assumpta Cathedral (Control Post), the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Conference Centre (EICC), and the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia Road.

Government officials have described the projects as part of efforts to reposition Imo’s infrastructure and improve connectivity within the South-East.

But while the government is projecting the visit as a moment of pride, critics are voicing their concerns. The Mazi Organisation (TMO), a socio-political pressure group in the state, welcomed Tinubu but accused Governor Uzodimma of focusing on federal road projects in order to receive reimbursements from Abuja, while neglecting many state and local government roads that remain in disrepair.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Cajetan Duke, on behalf of Chima Matthew Amadi, TMO argued that the Assumpta Flyover project, though highly celebrated, took over six years to complete and should not be regarded as a landmark achievement.

The group urged the President to look beyond the ceremonial inaugurations and pay attention to the real needs of ordinary Nigerians in Imo, including better roads in rural communities and improved welfare for citizens.
