Johannesburg High Court Grants Alleged Crime Boss Katiso Molefe R400,000 Bail
The Johannesburg High Court has granted bail of R400,000 to alleged crime boss Katiso “KT” Molefe. This comes after his earlier bail request was denied by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in August.
Molefe, 61, was arrested in July for his alleged involvement in the murder of popular musician DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa Sefoka.
He also faces charges linked to the murders of DJ Vintos (Hector Buthelezi) and engineer Armand Swart from Vereeniging.
Judge Brad Wanless overturned the earlier court decision, saying there was no solid reason to deny Molefe bail.
He agreed with Molefe’s legal team that the magistrate’s court had made an error by not recognizing valid grounds for his release.
However, the judge emphasized that Molefe’s bail would come with strict conditions to ensure compliance with the law and prevent interference in ongoing investigations.
Under the bail terms, Molefe is restricted to staying within Gauteng province and can only travel to Welkom in the Free State for business purposes.
His case continues to draw public attention due to his alleged ties to organized crime and high-profile murder cases.
The court’s decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning whether granting bail to such a high-profile suspect could affect the integrity of the investigation.
