Sewuese Dies After Allegedly Being Trafficked to Cotonou for Prostitution
A young Nigerian woman identified as Sewuese has died after she was allegedly trafficked to Cotonou, Benin Republic, for prostitution.
Sewuese reportedly died in Benue State on Friday, July 24, 2026, after she was brought back home while battling an illness.
Her death was announced by activist Zege Orkwande, who has been involved in efforts to rescue Benue girls trafficked to other countries.
Orkwande said investigations into the circumstances surrounding Sewuese’s trafficking are ongoing and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
“People are asking ‘who took Sewuese to Cotonou’. Trust my process,” the activist wrote.
He further stated that those who allegedly trafficked or smuggled the young woman to Cotonou for prostitution would face the full force of the law.
“The people that trafficked/smuggled her to Cotonou for prostitution will sure face the law and serve in prison uniform,” he said.
Orkwande added that investigators had gathered information on the case but would wait until after Sewuese’s burial before proceeding with the next steps.
“All information gathered. I’m waiting for her to be buried first. REST WELL,” he added.
