US Envoy Invites Nicki Minaj to Discuss Protection of Persecuted Christians in Nigeria
American rap star Nicki Minaj has caught the attention of U.S. officials after speaking out against the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
Following her remarks, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, has invited her for a private discussion on ways to protect persecuted Christian communities.
The invitation followed Minaj’s viral post on X (formerly Twitter), where she condemned attacks on Christians in Nigeria and praised the U.S. for upholding religious freedom.
Her statement came shortly after President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) over what he called a “Christian genocide” carried out by Islamist groups.
In his response, Ambassador Waltz thanked the Grammy-nominated artist for using her influence to draw global attention to the crisis. He said he was eager to discuss with her the U.S. government’s efforts to defend Christian minorities around the world.
“I would love to speak with you in more depth about what our administration is doing to protect Christians’ freedoms all over the world,” Waltz stated. “We can’t allow this to continue. Every sister and brother of Christ must band together and say, ‘Enough!’”
The U.S. government’s renewed interest in Nigeria’s religious conflict follows years of concern over rising attacks on Christian communities in the country’s northern region.
Extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP have been blamed for bombings, kidnappings, and killings targeting both Christians and Muslims.
Nigeria’s recent designation as a “Country of Particular Concern” underscores Washington’s growing frustration with what it sees as insufficient action to curb religious violence.
Nicki Minaj’s involvement has added an unexpected pop culture dimension to the debate, amplifying the issue beyond political circles and sparking discussions about the role of global celebrities in humanitarian advocacy.
