Switzerland Beat Algeria 2-0 to Reach World Cup Round of 16
Switzerland booked their place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Algeria at BC Place in Vancouver.

The win was a historic one for Murat Yakin’s side, as it marked Switzerland’s first World Cup knockout-stage victory since 1938.

The Swiss took the lead in the 10th minute when Johan Manzambi made an impressive run before setting up Breel Embolo, who finished from close range.

Just 48 seconds into the second half, Dan Ndoye doubled Switzerland’s advantage after taking advantage of a defensive mistake, putting the result beyond Algeria’s reach.

Algeria struggled to create clear chances and became the sixth African team to exit the tournament. Switzerland, meanwhile, remain unbeaten at the World Cup and will stay in Vancouver to prepare for a Round of 16 clash against either Colombia or Ghana.

The victory keeps Switzerland’s impressive campaign alive as they continue their bid for a deep run in the tournament.
