The Nigerian gospel music industry is preparing for another landmark event as the Nigeria International Gospel Music Awards (NIGMA) returns for its fifth edition on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the prestigious Agip Recital Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

More than just an awards ceremony, this year’s edition is being positioned as a movement that celebrates excellence while addressing one of society’s most pressing concerns, mental health.

According to Peter Armand Boyo, Head of Strategy for the Awards, NIGMA 2026 represents a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to recognize excellence, creativity, innovation, and positive impact within the gospel music industry.
Speaking on the forthcoming event, Boyo described the 2026 edition as one that will bring together gospel artists, music ministers, industry professionals, media practitioners, church leaders, corporate organizations, and entertainment stakeholders from across Nigeria and the diaspora.
“This promises to be an exceptionally distinguished and unforgettable occasion, commemorating the profound influence of gospel music and paying homage to the remarkable contributions of artists to the genre,” Boyo said.

Over the years, NIGMA has established itself as one of Nigeria’s leading gospel music recognition platforms, honoring outstanding contributions while promoting positive values through music.
Under its renewed vision, the awards continue to spotlight the growing global influence of Nigerian gospel music and celebrate individuals whose work inspires millions.

One of the defining features of the 2026 edition is its nationwide Mental Health Awareness Campaign. Rather than limiting its impact to a single awards night, the organizers are expanding the platform’s reach through partnerships with faith-based organizations, media institutions, corporate bodies, and mental health advocates.
The initiative seeks to promote emotional wellbeing, encourage conversations around mental health, and provide hope and support for individuals facing psychological challenges.
Also speaking on the significance of the event, Kingsley Omoefe, Team Lead of NIGMA and Chief Responsibility Officer of Golden Heritage Limited, emphasized that the awards are designed to inspire both excellence and social impact.
According to him, NIGMA is not merely about celebrating achievements but about recognizing individuals who use gospel music as a vehicle for inspiration, transformation, and national development while leveraging the platform to address critical social issues.
With expectations already building ahead of the August event, NIGMA 2026 is poised to deliver a blend of world-class entertainment, industry recognition, and meaningful advocacy, reinforcing the role of gospel music as a force for positive change in Nigeria and beyond.
As preparations continue, stakeholders across the music, faith, media, and corporate sectors are expected to rally behind an initiative that seeks not only to celebrate excellence but also to inspire hope, healing, and lasting societal impact.
