Chief cadre for the dyfunct Patriotic Front -PF-, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba is reportedly planning to hold a press briefing at which he will announce his return to the ruling United Party for National Development -UPND-.
Mwamba popularly known as GBM, was President Hakainde Hichilema’s running mate during the 2016 general elections which saw President Edgar Lungu retaining power amidst rife vote rigging claims.
The plus size bodied northern businessman later left the opposition to rejoin the then ruling Patriotic Front -PF- after Lungu’s repressive politics took toll on his businesses.
GBM who once served as Defence minister in late Sata’s government, is renowned for his untamed mouth, improptu political migrations including domestic violence against his wife.
Following the PF’s embarrassing defeat in the August 12 general elections, GBM came under accusations of ballot staffing, but decided to go on hybernation to rethink his political survival.
Two months after the loss, information has emerged suggesting that the local champion is scheming to rejoin Hichilema’s camp which he accused of tribal and satanic practices at the time he was resigning to rejoin the PF.
Meanwhile, sources within the PF have condemned the alleged plan by GBM to leave the party at a time when things are tough.
Speaking on anonymity conditions, a senior party official told AfricaWorld Reports in a virtual interview that GBM together with the foul-mouthed Chishimba Kambwili were behind the boat’s unforseen sinking during the last elections adding that no rebranding efforts will resurrect the former ruling party:
“It’s quite unfortunate that GBM has no political manners. He wants to leave the party after contributing to the loss we encountered. I can’t imagine the damage he’s causing the PF.”
“GBM and Kambwili thought campaigning on tribal lines would win us an election but the opposite happened. Now he wants to rejoin the UPND he demonized left, right and centre; there is no sense in this whole plan. Anyway, let me him appease his belly because even this so called rebranding process won’t awaken PF,” the source added.
Zambian social media spaces are buzzing with sharp reactions against GBM’s rumored political move with urban UPND supporters warning party structures against receiving the foul-mouthed political lightweight.
