Nollywood Actress, Angela Okorie Reportedly Detained Over Alleged Cyberbullying Linked to Mercy Johnson Case

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has reportedly been taken into police custody following allegations of cyberbullying connected to a complaint filed by her colleague, Mercy Johnson-Okojie.

According to reports, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre arrested Okorie at her residence in Lagos on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

She was said to have been held overnight at the Yaba Police Station, Panti, before being flown to Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday to face further investigation and possible court proceedings.

The development was disclosed by entertainment journalist and BON Awards founder, Seun Oloketuyi, who shared details of the arrest on his Instagram page.

He stated that the matter is being handled by the Cybercrime Centre in Abuja and is linked to allegations of online harassment involving Mercy Johnson and her family.

While neither the police nor the parties involved have released an official statement as of the time of filing this report, the incident comes amid growing concerns within the Nigerian entertainment industry over cyberbullying, defamation and the misuse of social media platforms.

The case also follows Mercy Johnson’s public declaration earlier this month that she would no longer tolerate online attacks against herself and her family.

At the time, the actress warned that defamatory posts and cyber harassment would attract legal consequences in 2026, signaling a tougher stance against online abuse.

The reported arrest has since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with fans and industry observers divided over the handling of cyberbullying cases involving public figures.

More details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
