Outrage as Kunle Afolayan, Yomi Fash-Lanso Back Pro-Bola Ahmed Tinubu Group Ahead of 2027
Public backlash has erupted following reports that Nollywood stars, including Kunle Afolayan and Yomi Fash-Lanso, are linked to the launch of a political support group for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The group, identified as the “Eko 57 Movement,” was reportedly unveiled in Lagos with the aim of rallying grassroots support for Tinubu’s anticipated 2027 re-election bid.
Other actors said to be involved include Ayo Adesanya and Remi Surutu, while popular figure Lege Miami was reportedly part of the organizing effort.
The development has sparked widespread criticism on social media, where many Nigerians questioned the timing of the endorsement.
With the country facing ongoing economic challenges, critics argue that public figures aligning with political interests risk appearing disconnected from the realities faced by ordinary citizens.
Some commentators also pointed to the influential role celebrities play in shaping public opinion, warning that such endorsements can deepen political divisions, especially in a charged environment where trust in leadership remains a contentious issue.
This is not the first time Nollywood personalities have been drawn into political advocacy. During the 2023 general elections, several entertainers publicly supported candidates, drawing mixed reactions from the public.
The latest development suggests that conversations around the 2027 elections are already gaining momentum, with celebrity involvement once again at the center of debate.
As reactions continue to pour in, none of the actors named in the reports has issued a detailed public statement addressing the controversy.
