US Rushes Citizens Out as Iran Targets American Interests

The United States has issued an urgent directive for its citizens in Iraq to leave the country immediately, as fears grow over potential attacks linked to Iran and its allied armed groups.

The warning, released by the US Embassy in Baghdad, highlights an escalating threat environment in which American-linked locations, particularly universities, may be targeted.

Cities identified as high-risk include Baghdad, Sulaymaniyah, and Dohuk, alongside other sites perceived to have ties to the United States.

The alert comes amid intensifying tensions in the Middle East following ongoing military exchanges involving the US, Israel, and Iran.

Iranian authorities, through the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), have warned that American-affiliated institutions across the region could face retaliation after alleged strikes on Iranian universities.

Beyond academic institutions, US officials cautioned that the threat could extend to diplomatic facilities, commercial centers, energy infrastructure, and other locations connected to American interests.

Intelligence reports also suggest that foreign-frequented areas such as airports and hotels may be at risk, raising concerns over possible abductions.

Security risks remain high across Iraqi airspace, with continued threats from rockets, drones, and mortar attacks.

Similar warnings in recent weeks have followed repeated assaults on US-linked sites, underscoring the persistent danger posed by Iran-aligned militias operating within the country.

The latest advisory reflects a broader deterioration in regional security, as the conflict widens and retaliation threats increase.

US citizens have been strongly advised to depart Iraq without delay while evacuation routes are still accessible.
