Nigeria Police Launch Investigation into Blessing CEO’s Controversial Cancer Claim

A fresh controversy has erupted in Nigeria’s entertainment and social media space as police authorities begin probing claims made by popular relationship therapist, Blessing Okoro, over an alleged cancer diagnosis.

The development follows a petition submitted by social media critic, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), who accused her of misleading the public.

The issue began in late March when Blessing CEO posted an emotional video on Instagram, claiming she had been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

In the viral clip, she appeared visibly distressed and showed signs of hair loss, which she attributed to the illness.

The revelation sparked widespread sympathy, with many Nigerians offering financial support after she announced plans to sell some of her properties to fund treatment.

However, doubts soon emerged after the Nigerian Medical Association, Delta State chapter, disowned a histology report circulating online in connection with her case.

The association stated that the document had allegedly been altered from an original report belonging to another patient diagnosed with breast cancer.

Amid mounting backlash and allegations of misinformation, Blessing CEO later walked back her earlier claims, describing the situation as a “miscommunication.”

She also disclosed that she received about ₦13 million in donations before deactivating her social media account.

Reacting to the controversy, VeryDarkMan said he was personally affected, revealing that he had donated money out of compassion after watching her video.

He expressed concern that such claims could undermine public trust and harm genuine cancer patients who rely on support.

Following his petition, the office of the Inspector General of Police has now taken up the matter for investigation, signaling a possible legal dimension to the unfolding controversy.

The case continues to generate debate online, raising questions about accountability, misinformation, and the ethical use of public sympathy in Nigeria’s digital space.
