NAN seeks strategic partnership with Lagos youth ministry

From L-R: Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole, Managing Editor, Head, NAN Lagos Office, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mrs Elizabeth Oni, Director, Public Affairs of the ministry at a courtesy visit of NAN to the Ministry on Friday in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has proposed a strategic partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development to amplify youth-focused initiatives and enhance public communication.

The Managing Editor and Head of NAN Lagos Operations, Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole, made the proposal during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, on Friday in Lagos.

Omowole said NAN’s visit underscored its commitment to meaningful collaboration rather than routine engagements, noting the agency’s interest in promoting impactful youth development efforts across the state and beyond.

She described NAN as a national and international platform with widespread reach across Nigeria, including district offices and representation at global events such as the United Nations summits.

According to her, the agency aims to showcase not only the ministry’s programmes but also the commissioner’s leadership, especially in the context of emerging opportunities for broader national impact.

Omowole said NAN was offering a partnership that includes media coverage, content distribution, and capacity-building opportunities for young people in communication and storytelling.

“We are not just offering media visibility but also skills development support for young people, while providing a platform to project the ministry’s work to a wider audience,” she said.

She added that NAN’s platforms, including its PR wire services, ensure seamless dissemination of information to multiple media outlets nationwide.

Responding, Ogunlende welcomed the proposal and expressed readiness to collaborate, noting that effective communication remains critical to bridging the gap between government and young people.

“We are doing so much, yet many people are not aware. Partnerships like this will help amplify our work and ensure that young people are better informed,” he said.

The commissioner emphasised the importance of collaboration in governance, describing the proposed partnership as a “win-win” arrangement that would benefit both the ministry and NAN.

He also reiterated his commitment to an open-door policy aimed at fostering direct engagement with young people and addressing their concerns promptly.

Ogunlende accepted NAN’s invitation for a follow-up visit and requested a formal proposal to enable further deliberation with the ministry’s management team.

He added that the ministry would consider integrating NAN’s communication and capacity-building offerings into its youth development programmes.

The commissioner commended NAN for its contributions to information dissemination and expressed optimism about a mutually beneficial relationship.
