Tinubu Sweeps APC Presidential Primary, Secures Over 10 Million Votes Against Lone Rival
President Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election after recording a commanding victory in the party’s nationwide direct primary.
The exercise, conducted across 8,809 wards nationwide, saw Tinubu overwhelmingly defeat businessman Stanley Osifo, his only challenger, in results announced during the collation exercise held at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Announcing the outcome, returning officer Pius Anyim said the president secured 10,999,162 votes, while Osifo polled 16,503 votes nationwide.
According to figures released by the party, 12,643,306 members were registered for the primary, with 11,069,756 accredited to participate and 11,015,665 eventually casting votes.
Tinubu dominated the contest in nearly every state, recording sweeping victories and, in many cases, winning all votes cast. Osifo failed to secure any vote in several states, including Delta, Kogi, Kaduna, Rivers, Borno, Ogun, Osun, Sokoto, Ondo, Ekiti and the Federal Capital Territory.
In some states, the challenger recorded only marginal numbers. In Lagos, Tinubu’s political base, the president polled 814,988 votes while Osifo secured 1,186. Kano returned 503,527 votes for Tinubu against 2,675 for Osifo, while Niger produced the challenger’s highest tally of 5,248 votes compared to the president’s 175,487.
States such as Borno, Yobe, Gombe and Taraba delivered all votes cast to the president, underscoring his dominance in the contest.
Osifo had joined the race after purchasing the APC’s N100 million presidential nomination form and pledged to challenge Tinubu for the party’s ticket following unsuccessful efforts to adopt a consensus candidate.
With the outcome, Tinubu formally clinches the APC presidential ticket and is expected to lead the party into the 2027 presidential election as it seeks another term in office.
