Jezco Boss Abducted: Kidnappers Raise Ransom Demand to N1.5bn
Kidnappers holding Anambra businessman and Chairman of Jezco Group, Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, have reportedly increased their ransom demand from N700 million to N1.5 billion.
The abductors were said to have initially demanded N700 million from Ezeokafor’s family, which reportedly accepted the amount in an effort to secure his release.
However, the kidnappers later raised the demand to N1.5 billion and have reportedly stopped communicating with the family.
A source familiar with the development said the family remained willing to negotiate, but efforts to restore contact with the abductors had so far failed.
Ezeokafor, a septuagenarian, was reportedly abducted at about 2am on Tuesday after leaving his residence for a prayer ground as part of his annual spiritual retreat.
He was said to have left his security details behind when he stepped out, reportedly making him vulnerable to the kidnappers.

About a week after the abduction, the Anambra State Government and the state Police Command have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
