Seminarian, Worshippers Abducted as Gunmen Attack Enugu Catholic Church
A Sunday worship service at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Inoyi, in Affa, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, ended in panic after suspected gunmen reportedly invaded the premises and abducted a seminarian alongside other worshippers.
The incident was brought to public attention through a Facebook post by social media influencer Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, who alleged that the attackers disrupted the church service before taking away a seminarian, a catechist and another worshipper.
According to the account, the catechist was later freed by the abductors, while the seminarian and the other victim were taken to an unknown destination.
The reported attack triggered an immediate response from youths in the community, who were said to have combed surrounding bushes in search of the kidnappers and the victims.
The search, however, was being conducted with caution over fears that the gunmen possessed superior weapons.
Residents have since been gripped by anxiety as efforts to locate the abducted victims continue, with many calling for stronger security measures to protect communities and places of worship.
Meanwhile, another Facebook user shared a video purportedly recorded shortly after the incident, claiming it captured the aftermath of the attack and urging the Enugu State Government and security agencies to act swiftly.
As of press time, the Enugu State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement confirming or reacting to the reported abduction.
