Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni delivered a compelling address late this week, shedding light on the country’s anti-homosexuality law and addressing the recent decision by the World Bank to suspend new loans.

In his statement, President Museveni clarified that the law does not target individuals based on their sexual orientation but rather focuses on preventing the recruitment or coercion of others.

“Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu,” Museveni began, acknowledging the concerns of his fellow citizens; he went on to highlight the significant role played by the private sector in farming and manufacturing, despite challenges posed by corrupt officials. .

Meanwhile, President Museveni was unequivocal about the consequences that await corrupt officials who undermine the progress of the nation..

“The corrupt will be accountable for their betrayal and they will be weeded out,” he affirmed, underlining his commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability within the government.

The president’s address took a decisive turn as he responded to the World Bank’s decision to suspend new loan requests from Uganda.

A conversation with a World Bank official had alerted him to this development, but he took this opportunity to reassure his fellow Ugandans and the international community alike.

“I want to inform everybody, starting with Ugandans, that Uganda will develop with or without loans,” President Museveni declared confidently.

He explained that historical mismanagement had led to careless loan agreements entered into without his approval.

Museveni also revealed that he had taken a firm stance against such practices, putting an end to unauthorized loans and promoting cautious borrowing, an approach, he asserted, had not hindered Uganda’s economic growth, even in the face of global challenges such as the war in Europe and the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Museveni’s speech shed light on his determination to lead Uganda towards self-sufficiency and sustainable development; and his emphasis on prudent borrowing and accountability underscores his vision for a thriving nation, resilient in the face of both internal and external challenges.

As the address concluded, President Museveni’s words echoed with conviction, “Uganda will develop and flourish, guided by our own efforts and determination.”

The president’s resolute stance on development, coupled with his commitment to transparency, left an indelible mark on the hearts of Ugandans, as the nation looks ahead to a future defined by progress, unity, and self-reliance.
