UEFA has launched an investigation following allegations of racial abuse directed at Aberdeen striker Pape Habib Gueye by PAOK Salonika fans during their Europa Conference League match.
The incident occurred in the second half of the game, where Gueye, a Senegalese forward, found himself on the bench as an unused substitute during the 2-2 draw in Greece.
Aberdeen took swift action, raising an official complaint with UEFA after the unsettling incident.
The Scottish club not only reported the abuse to the UEFA venue director but also documented the occurrence with the match delegate at the conclusion of the game.
In response to the allegations, PAOK Salonika has strongly dismissed the claims, stating that they are baseless and a mere product of imagination.
Furthermore, the Greek club highlighted their purported lack of a history of racist behavior within their stadium.
UEFA, the governing body for European football, has acknowledged the complaint and initiated an investigation into the matter.
The organization has assured that further details regarding the investigation will be provided in due course.
As the football world awaits the findings, the focus remains on promoting an inclusive and respectful environment within the sport, reaffirming that discrimination has no place on the pitch or in the stands.
