The Catholic Bishops of the Lagos Ecclesiastical Province, encompassing Lagos Archdiocese, Ijebu Ode, and Abeokuta Dioceses, have issued a resounding ‘no’ to blessing same-sex marriages.
This declaration comes in response to the Vatican’s recent ruling allowing priests to administer blessings to same-sex couples, albeit under specific conditions. While the Vatican’s decision has sparked varied opinions, the bishops align with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria and Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar, reiterating the Church’s stance on marriage as between a man and a woman.
