A team of Saudi medical experts achieved a groundbreaking feat by successfully separating Nigerian conjoined twins, Hassana and Husaina, at the King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh.

The surgery, spanning 14 hours across nine stages, addressed shared areas in the lower abdomen, pelvis, lower spine, and lower spinal nerves. This remarkable achievement, supported by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to advancing medical science globally.

The collaborative effort involving 38 medical professionals marks the 60th operation conducted by the Saudi program for separating Siamese twins, showcasing their dedication over the past 34 years to providing care for conjoined twins from various countries. This historic milestone not only signifies a triumph in medicine but also offers hope and renewed possibilities for conjoined twins worldwide, emphasizing the impact of international collaboration and medical innovation in transforming lives.
