A Prophet Was Sent — Catholic Priest Defends Nnamdi Kanu
A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Angelo Chidi Unegbu, has defended the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, saying his early warnings about Nigeria’s worsening security situation were ignored.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, the cleric described Kanu as “a prophet,” arguing that many Nigerians failed to recognize the significance of his repeated warnings before insecurity escalated across the country.
“The people prayed for a prophet. A prophet was sent, but they did not recognize him,” the priest wrote.
According to him, many of those who dismissed Kanu’s warnings are now seeking deliverance from the same insecurity, terrorism and oppression he had cautioned against years ago.
He suggested that the solution many Nigerians are searching for may have already been presented to them but was overlooked.
Fr. Unegbu also urged Nigerians not to wait for a single individual to rescue the country from its security challenges, insisting that lasting change would only come through collective action.
He called on citizens to unite in courage, purpose and determination, stressing that fear loses its grip when people stand together.
The priest added that national liberation begins when citizens choose unity over division, expressing optimism that more Nigerians are beginning to reassess their views on the country’s security challenges.
